What is the VAT rate in Nepal?
The standard VAT rate in Nepal is 13% under the Value Added Tax Act 2052. Some goods and services are exempt or zero-rated.
How do I calculate 13% VAT?
Multiply the price before VAT by 0.13 to get the VAT, then add it to the price. For example, Rs. 10,000 + Rs. 1,300 VAT = Rs. 11,300.
How do I remove VAT from a total?
Divide the VAT-inclusive total by 1.13 to get the taxable amount; the difference is the VAT. For example, Rs. 11,300 ÷ 1.13 = Rs. 10,000, so the VAT is Rs. 1,300.
Who has to register for VAT in Nepal?
Businesses whose annual turnover crosses the threshold set by the Inland Revenue Department must register, and some businesses register voluntarily. Check ird.gov.np for the current threshold for your type of business.
