Frequently asked questions

Is this background remover really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you process. It costs nothing to run because your own browser does the work.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs on your device. Your photo is never sent to a server, which makes this safe for ID photos, client work and private images.

Why is the first run slow?

The first time, your browser downloads the AI model: about 44 MB for High quality or about 7 MB for Fast mode. Your browser caches it, so later runs start almost instantly and even work offline. Each image then takes a few seconds.

Which mode should I use?

Use High quality for products, animals, objects and detailed edges like hair. Use Fast for quick portraits and profile photos, especially on phones or older laptops.

What resolution is the result?

The same resolution as the photo you upload, up to 4096 pixels on the longest side. Larger photos are scaled down to that size so the tool stays fast and does not run out of memory.

What is the maximum file size?

50 MB per image. JPG, PNG and WebP all work, and you can add several images at once. If a file is over 50 MB, the tool tells you straight away so you can pick a smaller one.

Can I add a new background colour?

Yes. Pick a colour after the background is removed, then download it as a JPG or PNG. For a transparent image, keep the checkerboard option and download a PNG.
